Library of Congress Awards Top Literacy Prize to Street Child
Street Child is honored to have been selected by the Library of Congress as the recipient of the 2022 David M. Rubenstein Prize – announced on International Literacy Day, September 8, 2022. The Prize recognizes Street Child’s ‘outstanding and measurable contribution to increasing literacy levels in multiple parts of the world’, and highlighted our programs with women and girls from the Musahar caste in Nepal - 96% illiterate before the program started - as particularly significant.
The wider Literacy Awards Program identifies organizations around the world that provide exemplary, innovative and replicable strategies to promote literacy and reading.
There are three prize categories, and we are thrilled to be in such outstanding company:
David M Rubenstein Prize (USD $150,000) – Street Child
American Prize (USD $50,000) – Make Way for Books
International Prize (USD $50,000) – Young African Refugees for International Development (YARID) – Uganda - one of our core Uganda partners!
